Meet Tony, our first one-day hip replacement patient

Tony Batchelder was our first patient to undergo one-day hip replacement surgery at Practice Plus Group Hospital, Barlborough. He said: “I would prefer to avoid staying in hospital if I can, and I think anyone would feel more relaxed and comfortable in their own home”.

On the day of his surgery, Tony arrived at the hospital at 6am and was in theatre around 9am. Tony said: “Everything went smoothly and the surgery took just 55 minutes. I was back on the ward shortly after, and on my feet with the physiotherapist by 12.30pm.”

After working with the physiotherapist, by 7pm Tony was ready to be collected by his partner to begin his recovery. Before his surgery he was given all of the equipment needed to recuperate at home, as well as plenty of medication and a 24/7 telephone number for medical support on the ward.

Tony was back at work seven weeks later and said “I was very pleased with how it went. The team at the centre were very good from start to finish.”
